About Dog Bites
With over 90 million dogs in US households, it is likely that some may attack and bite, leading to injuries. Unfortunately, a dog bite could lead to more severe health issues that will require medical help.
To file a dog bite claim, you must be able to prove that:
- The dog had in the past bitten another person or acted fiercely to others in the past.
- The owner failed to use the best care to ensure that the dog doesn’t cause bodily harm to others.
Disease Resulting from Dog Bites
Besides causing personal injuries, one can suffer from a bacterial infection leading to diverse sicknesses including:
MRSA
If the dog responsible for your bit is resistant to some antibiotics, it may be an MRSA carrier. Unfortunately, these dogs don’t show any symptoms but will cause some serious infection from a bite. For instance, you may suffer from skin infection, lung infection, or urinary tract infection from the bite. And if you don’t act fast, these infections can eventually lead to death.
Rabies
This is among the most severe diseases that can result from a dog bite. This virus will affect the brain, leading to death as soon as the symptoms appear. But if the dog was vaccinated against rabies (which is the case with most dogs in the US), it is rare to get it. To be safe, however, you should ask your physician if a rabies vaccination is a necessity in your case.
Tetanus
The toxins from Clostridium bacteria may lead to rigid paralysis, especially for deep bites. For legal advice as a result of a dog attack, please contact the personal injury attorneys at Leonard Law, PLLC.
